Partners’ workshop to contribute to country action plan addressing women, girls, gender equality and HIV.
A
two half days workshop that brought together delegates from different partners, have been
organized by CNLS in collaboration with UNAIDS and UNIFEM from Thursday 22nd
to Friday 23rd of July 2010 at Sports view Hotel in Kigali to
contribute to the elaboration of the country action plan addressing Women,
Girls, Gender Equality and HIV.
Rwanda has joined the global process of accelerating
the AIDS response with special needs of women and Girls, said Dr Anita Asiimwe
the Executive Secretary of CNLS....
AIDS 2010 in Vienna under the theme “Rights Here, Right Now”
The XVIII International AIDS Conference opened on Sunday 18 July in the city
of Vienna. Austria has welcomed an estimated 20,000 delegates from all over the
world who take part in this conference under the theme “Rights Here, Right Now”
selected to emphasize the critical connection between human rights and HIV.
The opening ceremony began with a video message from Secretary-General
Ban-Ki Moon reiterating UNAIDS’ new vision for the AIDS response: zero new
infections, zero discrimination and zero AIDS-related deaths.
Rwanda to benefit from U.S. Government Support for Global Health Efforts
The U.S. Government continues to lay
the groundwork for efforts under the U.S. Global Health Initiative (GHI),
announcing the first round of "GHI Plus" countries, as well as the program's
governance structure. GHI is a six-year, $63 billion initiative to help partner
countries improve measurable health outcomes by strengthening health systems
and building upon proven results. It places a particular focus on improving the
health of women, newborns and children. Pursuing a comprehensive approach, GHI incudes programs adressing HIV/AIDS, malaria, tuberculosis, maternal and
child health, nutrition, family planning and reproductive health, and neglected
tropical diseases.

In the press conference
held at the National AIDS Control Commission (NACC) on Tuesday June 15, 2010,
the President of UNITAID Dr Philippe Douste-Blazy expressed his satisfaction on Rwanda’s achievements in the
fight against HIV/AIDS, particularly in the PMTCT (preventing mother-to-child transmission of HIV) program.
“I’m very happy to have seen 2 children seronegative whose mothers
are HIV positive thanks to the PMTCT program…. It is a real pleasure to support
a country that helps itself like Rwanda.” said Dr Philippe Douste-Blazy
and added that what he had seen in his visit on the field was very impressive.
