Children short-changed by AIDS response
Huge strides have been made in
the provision of antiretroviral (ARV) treatment, and HIV prevention is
receiving more attention than ever before, but the global AIDS response has
neglected children, said experts at the International AIDS Conference in Mexico City this week.
"Children have been short-changed in the response to AIDS," Linda
Richter, of South Africa's
Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC), told delegates on Wednesday. "They
are visible in the photo opportunities, but mostly invisible in the
response."
The Minister of Health, Dr. Jean
Damascène Ntawukuriryayo, together with Minister of Gender and family
promotion, Dr. Jeanne d’Arc Mujawamariya, the Minister of Culture and Sports,
Mr. Joseph Habineza, the Minister of youth, Mr. Protais Mitali and the CNLS
President Dr. Jean Claude Sibomana closed the social support campaign
« WITEGEREZA » on Thursday, 17th July 2008, here in Kigali.
The closing ceremony took place at the Prima Holdings’ conference hall,
Kimihurura in Gasabo District and was directly broadcast on the national radio,
the national television, the radio Contact FM and on the Radio Salus.

Promotion, Mrs Jeanne d’Arc Mujawamariya, accompanied by the Executive
Secretary of the CNLS, Dr Agnès Binagwaho, the Executive Secretary of the
National Youth Council, Mr Albert Murangwa, the Director of TRAC+ in charge of
HIV and AIDS, Dr Anita Asiimwe, as well as Dr Jane Muita, who represented One
UN, held a press conference on Thursday 08 May 2008 at the Telecom House in
Kigali.
