HIV/AIDS in Rwanda


 

The Gouvernment of Rwanda::

- The Government of Rwanda provides salaries and support CNLS, TRAC and GLIA operations. Subsidize ARVs drugs. Cover the cost of TB drugs .

Bilateral Donors::

- Luxembourg Cooperation provides lab tests and plan to provide ARVs drugs for 5000 individuals.

- USAID provides support for VCT and STIs activities in five provinces. Provides support to NGOs. Religious groups for community-based programs HIV/AIDS/STI IEC Strategies . Behavioral surveillance surveys among youth. .

- Belgium Cooperation : Preparing a project to support select health districts.

- Centers for disease control and prevention: provide support for VCT and STI activities in one province . HIV biologic and behavioral surveillance in 2002.personnel support to the TRAC(3 positions).

- KFW: Condom distribution and marketing.

- GTZ: Support in two health districts for HIV/AIDS and family planning.

- DED: One full-time person providing technical assistance in HIV/AIDS in one health district.

- DFID Rwanda: Wide range of activities through action AID and Ministry of Education.

- Swiss Cooperation decreases vulnerability of youth to HIV/AIDS/STI.

Multilateral Donors::

- ADB (African Development Bank ) : Renforcement institutionnel des structures des structures de coordination et de mise en œuvre du Plan National Mulltusectoriel de Lutte contre le VIH et le SIDA click here for more detail...

- UNICEF: Plan to support PMTCT program. Supports IEC for youth in and out of school. Supports care for orphans.

- UNDP: Reduction of socio-economic impact of HIV in 4 provinces. Supports CNLS operation . Supports prevention among military.

- UNFPA: Technical and financial support to reproductive health, HIV, STI program for youth. Community condom distribution.

- UNAIDS: Supporting activities with military and PACFA (First Lady’s office).

- WHO: HIV surveillance, VCT, PMTCT in two provinces through Italian funds.

- UNESCO: Supports sensitization campaign in school.

- World Bank: Supports the MOH for HIV/AIDS activities in four districts, training of CNLS, TRAC and GLIA personnel . Provides support for HIV prevention for in-school youth.

Private Sector::

- Bralirwa: Provides ARV treatment for their HIV+employees.

- National Bank of Rwanda: Provides Antiretroviral treatment HIV+employees.

- MSD, Glaxo-Bristol Pharmaceutical Companies provides ARVs drugs at low cost.

- Pfizer Pharmaceutical Companies provide fluconazole for free.

- Boelingher Pharmaceutical Companies provide nevirapine for PMTCT.

Civil Society::

- PACFA (First Lady's Foundation): Care and support to genocide widows and orphans.

Others::

- Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation: Support PMTCT program in four health centers.








Among the resolutions resulting from the Third Retreat of members of the Rwandan Government held at hotel AKAGERA Game Lodge on February 12-17, 2006, there is one which says that it is up to every institution of the Government to fight against HIV and integrate the fight in its program and even in all its daily activities.
